I Just Can’t Do This Whole New Year’s Resolutions Thing

in basic beliefs, encouragement, goals, marriage, parenting, Parenting on 28/12/17

I am the queen. The queen of good intentions.
I want to be a better mom, better wife, better friend, better texter-backer, better healthy eater, better better BETTER!

And every year at the end of the year…after I have been the best sugar-eater in the world, I feel like it’s time for a fresh start.
I feel the pressure from all the other people I see around me who seemingly have it all together, and I feel like I have to change…
well, everything.
EVERYTHING!!
And it’s all so. so…vague. Like. Be a better mom? What does that even mean?
Be a better wife? How, exactly?
So I try. To be better at all of it.

And sometimes it works really well for a few weeks, maybe a month, maybe two.
But the reality is, life be cray cray.
And life doesn’t go the way I plan the majority of the time.
So when the schedule gets wonky, and my life gets crazy, I get deflated and give up.
Then I feel even worse than when I started.

I just can’t do this whole new year’s resolution thing!

I mean, I get it. I really do.
January is a chance for a fresh start.
A new year, with new dreams and new plans.
And I’m not against it.
I just think it’s too…long of a commitment.
A whole, entire year?!
I just don’t think I can commit to that.
I need something smaller.
Something more reasonable.

I figure one month is doable to me.
I can do one month.
I can commit to 31 days of taking something out of my diet, or changing something I say, or reading my Bible more.

So one month is what I’m doing.
February? I will make a commitment for February when February comes.
But today, I’m making a commitment for January.
Small, baby steps that get me to where I want to go.

How about you?
Is there anything you need to work on?
Looking at the entire 2018 calendar stressing you out?
Do one month with me!

I can do one month. Can you?
Go here and download this January 2018 plan.
Fill out things that you want to do differently…and remember.
It’s just for one month!!
We aren’t getting crazy here, people!
If you don’t want to fill in all the blanks, just fill in the areas you want to work on.
Pick a character trait you want to work on in yourself, and challenge yourself to grow.
And if you need accountability? I will be here.
Texting you, emailing you, bugging you.
Because we know this…God doesn’t expect us to be perfect, but He does expect us to be growing!
We can’t let ourselves get so overwhelmed with the thought of a new year’s resolution that we throw in the towel all together!
We can’t do everything, but we can do one thing.

So let’s do one thing.
Let’s do one month.
Together.

Let’s make January the best month ever.
